High, Wide and Handsome: Ponderosa

The state tree of Big Sky Country is known for it's many other names. It's the "Bull Pine," the "Blackjack Pine" "Pinus Ponderosa" and "Western Yellow Pine." Our favorite part is the fact that when its bark gets hot in direct summer heat, it smells like a nice tray of oatmeal cookies.

And recently, these beauties have come under attack from the feared Pine Beetle. All this to say, trees rule. Ponderosas are Montana's state trees, and by gum, viva la Ponderosa.
